Battle in Italy
In September 1943 the Allies put ashore in southern Italy. During their march to the north there is a fierce battle over the strategically located Monte Cassino, between the advancing American / British invaders in the valley and the German defenders on the mountain. The Benedictine monastery on the mountain is bombed by the Allied air forces into a rubble.
